Metro Detroit Business Owner Mike Ryan Talks Starting GuitarGrip Guitar Hangers

January 24, 2019

Mike Ryan comes from a family of creative-types, and it shows.

In fact, it was the combined interests and talents of him, his mom (an artist) and his dad (a musician), that led to the creation of GuitarGrip Guitar Hangers.

Based out of Plymouth, the popular invention allows musicians to mount a hand-shaped hanger to the wall to "hold" their guitars.

First launching in 2007, the family-owned business has grown a lot over the past 12 years. They design, manufacture, and market the grips right out of their metro Detroit facility, and sell them around the world.

Last week, Mike Ryan stopped by the MusicTown Detroit studios for an interview with Pam Rossi on Behind the Mic, where he talked about the trial and error of innovation and entrepreneurship that resulted in a successful company.

"Looking back, we definitely paid our dues as far as the 'homegrown' manufacturing process," Ryan told Rossi of the company's early days. "This whole process was key, because I was like, 'Somebody's not going to buy a second or third one of these if it doesn't function properly.'"
